Question
I have a Republica De Guatemala coin dated 1900,value of 0.500, with the front having a lady on a chair of some sort. I have lokked around the internet and can not find a picture or value.

Answer

Hi Alexander,
This is a Guatemalan 1 real, similar coins were made in denominations of 1/2, 1, 2 and 4 reales and were simultaneously made in copper-nickel and silver. I have attached a picture of another coin of this type. The 0.500 is actually the silver purity, the value would be on the opposite side below the seated figure.
The silver version you have is the better variety for the 1900 year. In excellent condition they are worth between $10 and $15, while a decent example sells for around $5 and sometimes as high as $8-$10. These are normally pretty crudely struck, so grading is fairly liberal. For comparison, the example in the picture I have attached would be considered in excellent condition.
Please don't forget to rate my answer.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
