Question
1945 dos pesos estados unidos mexicanos, that is what one coin says and it also has the eagle an snake all of that.it also has ridges on the side of it like any other coin would.what is it and is it worth anything?

Answer

Hi Shade,
You have a valuable gold coin from Mexico. The 1945 is a later and more common date, but the gold bullion value is still significant. This coin contains right around 1/20th of an ounce of pure gold, which at the current market prices equals $55 to $60. If the coin is in mint condition and nice and shiny, the price is slightly higher at around $70-$75.
Gold is currently at the highest price range it has ever been, and the value of this coin depends greatly on gold markets.

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
