Coin and Paper Money Collecting/estate coin collection appraisal

Question
I am the PR to my aunt's estate and she had a collection of coins that needs to be appraised and sold for the estate. It is mostly Morgan silver dollars and Eisenhower dollars. I am afraid of using someone without a referral as I want to get the best price for my family. I am in the Phoenix area zip 85296. Do you have any reputable references or other suggestions that may help me on this? Thanks so much.
Jim

Answer
Jim,

The Eisenhower dollars are not likely to be worth much, but the Morgan dollars can be if you have the right date/mint combinations.  The mintmark is located on the back, above the DO in DOLLAR.

You can view an online retail price list to check for rare dates here :

The best way to evaluate your coins is to get 2-3 estimates from different dealers.  You can do this by either attending a local coin show or contacting a few dealers.

The following websites list coin shows throughout the USA :

http://www.coinshows.com
http://www.coinworld.com

You can find a list of Phoenix area ANA member coin dealers here :

http://www.money.org/ana_custom/dealer_search/dealer_results.cfm?search_type=2a&...

Being from Michigan, I don't personally know any Phoenix area dealers, but if you get more than one estimate you should do alright.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
