Question

gold coin 1887
Hi Brad.
Hope this finds you well. My mother gave me this bracelet to try and sell. . . with a gold coin attached- not with a whole but in clasps. It is a 10 G gold coin from koninkrijk der nederlanden dated 1887.It appears to be in good shape, but I am no expert. Is it worth anything?
Thanks for your time.
best,
Johnny

Answer
Hi Johnny, There were 40,754 of these Dutch 10 Gulden coins minted that year featuring King William (1849-90). This 90% gold coin should weigh 6.729 grams and would contain .1947 of an ounce of gold. Collector value may be worth a little over the current gold value, about $225 depending on amount of wear and collector demand.
Current gold and silver values: http://www.kitco.com/market/ .
If a coin has been damaged by becoming part of the jewelry or cannot be separated from the jewelry without damage then its value lies in the piece of jewelry and not as a coin.
You might try Ebay.com for similar pieces for comparison.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
