Question
i found a 1980 d nickel that has a series of numbers stamped down the front and back of the coin. is it a misprint from the mint.
the markings are from top to bottom  p1135
                                    12s
                                    cga
                                    350
                                    12/08
                                    lot
                                    00177

Answer
Hi Ricky,
Being stamped into the coin is odd.  My only guess is that CGA is a coin grading association, lot would be the lot # of an auction, and 12/08 being the date of the auction.

Maybe it was a counterstamped piece to promote the auction.

Try searching Google for CGA.
