Question
I have this coin in a ring setting and wonder what it might be worth these days with gold over $900 an ounce.
I would say good condition
Thanks

Answer
Hello Jim,

A coin used in jewelry usually has no collectable numismatic value. So the condition of the coins state of preservation is to be decided by the buyer.

The mounting, wear pattern and any cleaning has damaged the piece.  They would be valued at the melting price of the metals it contains.

You do not mention the denomination but there were two that would have been used in a ring they were the Two and a Half dollar and the Five Dollar coins.

The $2.5 dollar contains only .12094 ounces of gold and the $5 used .24187 ounces of gild.
So if gold was $1000 pre ounce they would be valued at $120 and $241 dollars.  Normal jewelry pieces are valued at the same rate so keeping the coin ring as is would be more valuable than selling for melt value.

I hope this information Helps.

If there any more information you require on this question just ask.

Thank You and Good Luck
