Question

64 Kennedy Smooth Edge
I have a 1964 Kennedy half dollar that does not have any reeding on the edge, and is not worn.  The coin is slightly smaller in diameter than the other coins, edge is rounded and wider, and it has a higher rim.  I would appreciate any insight you might have on this coin.  Thank you very much.

Answer
Hello Patricia,

Sorry I cannot help you much.
The coin sounds like the edge was rolled smooth after it left the mint.

An image of the coin itself would not be too much help. Something like this needs to be looked at under magnification by a trained eye.

It could be a coin made on a different coin blank. It would be struck off center if it was small and only an authenticator could tell.

If is an Error coin any value assigned to it gets is set by the buyers. Because error coin collecting is a branch outside of normal coin collecting there is no fixed pricing on these error coins published and each one would have to be seen to be evaluated.

If you write back with the general location (nearest large cities) and some zip codes in your area, I can direct you to an AMERICAN NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION MEMBER/DEALER near there. They are ethical and trustworthy.
