Question
I have a 1943 nichol with a S stamped on the back. Can you tell me anything about it.  I also have some silver certificates I know nothing about.

Answer
Hello Sandra,

If the "S" on the 1943 nickel is above the dome of Monticello, it is part silver.  From 1942-1945, nickel was being used in the war effort and silver was used as a replacement.  The change was denoted by placing the mintmark above the dome.  Currently, they are worth about 50 cents each.

Silver certificates from the 1930's and 1950's, unless brand new, are worth about $1.25.  Mint ones are worth about $6
