Question

dime reverse
I found this dime in some pocket change yesterday. It is very strange looking. On the front it looks like 2 cracks running across. The back looks like it has 3 different thicknesses. (This is the only way I can describe it) The outer ring is the thickest, then there is a small middle ring and the thinnest ring is in the center of the coin. (I say rings but they are not perfect circles in any way.)The letters and designs seem to go from one level to the other without being deformed. I was wondering if it was an error or just damaged. Also, think it is worth anything?

Answer
Randy,

The front of the coin looks like damage -- which is too bad.

The reverse looks like either a lamination or was struck with a shattered die -- in either case it's not worth a huge amount -- perhaps a few dollars to an interested collector.

I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
