Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1974 Aluminum Penny

Question
I have what seems to be a 1974 aluminum penny. I know about them being made and not put into circulation. I don't know if it has any value. I found a site that stated it is actually illegal to have one. Can you help me find someone that can acurately value this coin? Is there any value?

Hi Robin,
There have been reports of 1974 and 1975 aluminum cents. Some did make it into circulation but it was not intentional. The legality of ownership is up in the air, I haven't gotten a clear answer on this.
If you want to send it to me, I will weigh it and inspect it.
The only other option si to send it to a grading company for authentication. However, doing so may open up the door to probelms if it is determined that ownership is illegal.
