Question

Reverse of 1996
I bought this 1996 Silver American Eagle back in 2004 along with several other coins. Ididn't even notice that the reverse has a ring around the Eagle on the reverse. The coin is nearly perfect except for the ring that appears to have been stamped by the mint. Does this decrease the value of the coin or does it become very rare? Picture attached. I can provide front if requested. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Brad,
I can honestly say that I have never seen that reverse on a 1996 Silver Eagle.  If I have, I don't remember it.
I would send the coin to PCGS for certification.  It's either a die variety, error or counterfeit.
There have been a lot of Morgan and Trade dollars comin from China that are not genuine.  Maybe they did these?  I don't know.
Have PCGS check it out.
