Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Misprinted rhode island quarter

Question
I just came across an interesting quarter. It is plated with copper on one side and the nickel or tin color on the other side. At first glance it looked like a giant penny but at a closer look it became clear that the U.S. mint either forgot to plate the one side or it was stuck to another one and didn't receive the proper plating. It is a 2001 quarter. I was wondering if it was worth anything?

Answer
Joe,

Nice find!

Your coin was stamped on a blank that was cut out of an area of the long metal sheet that did not get its copper/nickel coating.  These unfinished planchet errors are very popular among state quarter error collectors.  Certified and encapsulated examples of these have been selling in the $300 to $400 range on eBay.
