I have a 1888 dime with a III in the back...I cannot find any information on the internet

What you have is actually a 3-cent piece -- one of the nickel type, as opposed to the silver type.
And actually 1888 is one of the rarer dates for these. In well-worn condition it is worth about $35 -- lightly worn is worth about $60
