Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Lincoln cent

Question
Hi Dan.
I recently had PCGS grade my 1914 d Lincoln penny as an AU58. I went to ebay and elsewhere on the
web and couldn't quite find a value on this specific grade. I did see one last year at one site sold for
around $2000 but that was last year. Any idea of current value of this coin?

Thanks
Ed

Answer
Ed,

The current online PCGS Price Guide lists a 1914-D cent in AU-58 at $2,100.00 -- this would reflect a retail sale price.

see : http://www.pcgs.com/prices/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=3&PR=1&c=45&title=Lincoln+Ce...

However, the current Coin Dealer Newsletter prices this coin in AU-50 at $1,225 and in MS-60 at $1,650

I would estimate the value of your AU-58 at about $1,500

The closest thing I could find on eBay was a nice, unslabbed AU, that sold for $1,540 -- which after eBay & PayPal fees comes out to about $1,400

If somebody offers you $2,000 for your coin, take it and run!
