Question
I was cleaning out my garage and found some old coins and other paper money items in a box that my grandfather gave to me several years ago.  I looked through it and noticed an extremely old bill "Five Schillings, 1778, South Carolina".  It is in decent shape and my wife and i are wondering if it is worth anything today.

Answer
Yes, it certainly does have some value, but that value is very much determined by condition.  You may want to try going to www.ebay.com and doing searches like 1778 five schillings and the like to see if someone else has one up for sale and what the asked price is and what bidders have bid.  If the piece is pretty rare so that it is not coming up on eBay, you may want to do some similar searches at www.google.com to see what comes up about the piece, Jim Lawniczak
