Question

1882 S silver dollar
Hi Dan,
I have this 1882 S Morgan with an unusually long tail on the two--would this be considered an error, or are they all like that?   Thanks in advance.  Jack

Answer
Jack,

Sounds like a doubled die variety, like VAM-8, that makes that tail look that way due to overpolishing of the die.

If you have a strong magnifier, examine the date for other evidence of doubling.

Collector interest in this is low to medium -- expect little or no premium for it.
