About Dan Moore Expertise My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library,
and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just
about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current
price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So,
with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value
any U.S. coin you have.

Question Hello I am new to collecting and while looking at some of the coins i have i found what i think is an error coin. It is dated 1946 and the letter (E) in liberty seems to have an error. it looks like it has been miss punched. is there any way only one letter can be a mistake? i am looking at it and i am sure it is not just a scratch. thank you for any help you can give me bill
Answer Bill,
It's possible that something got on or in the die (like machine grease or a metal flake) causing the miss-punching of one or more letters or numbers. Collector interest in this type of error is low -- value at no more than a dollar.
