Hi – I can’t find the proof eagle 2009 coins on the mints site. Is there another place to buy them?

The mint is not distributing the coins and allegedly not even producing them.

This is hard for the true set collectors that want every date in their series. Here is what the mint reports.
“Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins “in quantities sufficient to meet public demand . . . .”
The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products.”

They are saying they do not have the blanks. The truth is more like they want you to buy their other trinkets and coins that they overproduce.  They are sending out the Bullion uncirculated coins in business quality. If they do make the proof versions I hope there are enough produced for the private collectors to get one to own.  The secondary market dealers may mess it up by trying to control the price and purchasing bulk quantities.

At present we all have to wait and see if they are to be made. This is always bad for the hobby.
