About Dan Moore
Expertise
My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience
I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.

Organizations I belong to :
American Numismatic Association Member #187770
Michigan State Numismatic Society Member #8255
Florida United Numismatics Member #19710

Coin Collecting - Silver and Gold Coin Set Information and potential value

Expert: Dan Moore - 6/22/2009

Question
I have a Silver and Gold coin set called "Twelve Great Americans" from the Letcher Mint in a key locked case.  The coins are 24grams of .999 pure silver with a gold head that is 5 grams of 24 Karat Gold.  Other than gold and silver market prices, I can't find any information on the set itself.  Wher can I find information on this set and possibly what the set is workt?

Answer
Dave,

The Letcher Mint -- a private company -- was only in business for 2 years back in the 1970's.  I doubt you will find any information anywhere about this set.

Being privately minted -- like similar items from Franklin Mint, Washington Mint, Kennedy Mint (all private companies) -- it's next to impossible to find a collector that will pay any more than the metal value of these items -- even with the pretty box.

Sorry I can't help you more.

Dan
