Coin and Paper Money Collecting/roosevelt dime

Question
What does the symbology on the front of the dime & just below Roosevelt's neck signify?  My eight year old son (whose eyes are much younger than mine) is asking me about this..... he says it looks like a "J" and a "5".  I'm lucky if I can make out the year on a dime, let alone this very tiny imprint just below roosevelt's neck.  BTW, thanks for taking the time to help us out.

Answer
Hello,

The Roosevelt Dime started in 1946 and has kept the same design.
John R. Sinnock designed the coin showing a portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt. You son's eyes are correct; it is his initials (JS) you see at the truncation of the neck.

This Dime has heavier lettering and a more modern design look than previous coins.

Happy Fathers Day and Good Luck,
