Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1965 Quarter

Question
Dear Sir:
  I found a 1965 quarter that is solid copper. I had people say that some one probable just melted the silver off. Looking at the edges they look to smooth on top and bottom. Was there any quarters stamped missing the silver?
Thanks in advance;
Randy Karg

Answer
Hi Randy,
First off, these coins in 1965 were a 3 layer sandwich of a copper core and nickel.  There have been cases of delamination of the nickel outside.  This is probably what you have.  The details are probably weak or slightly blurred sinc ethe coin would have had the well struck design on the nickel outsides.
If you check on eBay for similar items, you will probably find one.  That will give you an idea of the value.

I hope this helped you.
