Question
I have a 1993 quarter that appears to have a texture in the silver. I dont really know how to explain the texture. I figure if it was a misprint you probably know of what I am speaking. My question is: Is it a misprint?

Answer
Hello Shawn,

The coin would have to be seen to decide how the surface got the look you describe.

There is no added value for the defect and if it was done as an alteration after it left the mint it is only worth face value. Defacement of coins, done outside the mint has no added value.

Some multiple struck coins can look like this. But as I said it does have to be seen to be evaluated. Certainly the coins surface was smooth when it was struck by a 60 ton press to impart the image design.

There are ways it can happen other than the minting process. Only errors that took place at the mint are collectable.

Sorry I cannot be more help.

Good Luck
