Coin and Paper Money Collecting/$2 bill marking an occasion

Question
I have a $2 bill (1976 series) that was postmarked at the NY Bicentennial Barge Station in Albany (July 4, 1976). It also has a NY bicentennial stamp (13 cents) on its front. It has been kept in an envelope (which is yellowing a bit) with the same postmark and a pre-printed Liberty Tree stamp. It's a cool souvenir if nothing else... but I am curious as to whether these types of mementos are ever worth anything. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Angela,

The base price for these bills is $3.25.  Collectors across the nation had their notes stamped.  Many collectors try to get one from each town in their area or state.  It is a neat novelty item and that's about it. On occasion they can bring good money on eBay, but you never know.

Please remember to never clean coins or notes, this can damage and lessen their value.  Also, soft plastics can contain harmful chemicals that can react with these items over time.  Try using inert materials when storing items of value.  Plus, it is always a good idea to store coins/notes in a safe.  The safe should not be exposed to the elements and should not be up against a wall to the outside.  These are just a few tips I have learned over the years to help keep your collection in top shape.
