Coin and Paper Money Collecting/$20 National Currency

Question
I have a $20 bill that says National Currency on the top. It was issued from the National City Bank of Cleveland,Ohio. The number 786 appears on each side of the front of the bill. Series of 1929. It has a brown seal. The back of the bill has a picture of the White House.  I guess the condition is o.k.. Someone wrote the numbers 062 in pencil on the back.  No rips or tears. It's not too dirty, but it has a spot on the back about 1/4" where it is white from wear. The front looks good. Is is worth more than $20 or should I just use it as cash?  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Laurie,

From your description of the note its worth $25 dollars.  You might try selling it yourself on eBay - it is possible you will get more money for it.   The white spot on the reverse from wear is the big problem.  Collectors for the most part want a problem free note.  Notes from large cities are typically common.   I hope this helps!

Please remember to never clean coins or notes, this can damage and lessen their value.  Also, soft plastics can contain harmful chemicals that can react with coins over time.  Try using inert materials when storing coins.  Plus, it is always a good idea to store coins in a safe.  The safe should not be exposed to the elements and should not be up against a wall to the outside.  These are just a few tips I have learned over the years to help keep your collection in top shape.
