Question
I have a coin with one side being a 1971 Kennedy half dollar and the other
side being copper with the face of Queen Elizabeth, bearing the inscription
Regina . F:D+ Elizabeth.II.Dei.Gratia (back to Regina) around the
circumference. Ant idea what this is?  Th thickness of the coin seems to be
the same as other Kennedy half dollars. Both sides seem to be well struck and
the curved side of the coin seems normal, with the copper part being smooth
and the Kennedy part being ribbed.

Answer
Bob,

This is a novelty item known as a magician's coin.  Somebody took the two (normal) coins you described, altered them, and glued the remains back together.

While this coin combination is unusual, magician's coins can be made from almost any kind of coin.

Value at $2.00 to $5.00

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
