Question

San Diego 1969 200th Anniversary Silver medal.
This is a really nice Medal that was struck by the United States Mint of Philadelphia, (HAS THE "P" MINT MARK ON THE MEDAL), to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of San Diego.
The medal has a horse drawn covered wagon with a church in the background on the front of the medal and the reverse has a Conquistador with a monk on it with the dates 1769 to 1969.

Would it be possible to get some information regarding this medal, composition, value, legal tender, etc.

I have included a photo of the obverse and the reverse.

Thank you in advance for your time and troubles.  Danny

Answer
Danny,

San Diego 1969 200th Anniversary Silver medal 1968 so-called dollar

0.7 oz. .999 SILVER 19.9g 1 5/16 inch 34 mm

While this medal is technically considered a "So-Called Dollar", it does not have any legal tender value.

Silver value is about $9.00 -- collector value is about $20.00

These were available at almost any local bank in the San Diego area during the year of issue.

I hope this helps,

Dan

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
