Question
What is the best procedure for selling U.S. Mint Coin Sets; Platinum, Gold, and Silver.  How does a seller obtain the correct prices for Proof or Bullion Coins; which should reflect a premium over their metal content.

Answer
Hi Elaine,
This is a tough market to be selling modern issue US sets in.  Due to the fact that people need money, a lot of these items have come on the market.
Anything that's gold, silver or platinum related is easy.  You know the value of the metal on a daily market so that should be the minimum you accept.  Understand that a dealer will not pay you retail and is entitled to make a fair profit.  So if he offers melt value and sell for 8-10% over that, it is reasonable.
As for proof sets and mint sets that are not precious metal oriented, chances are you will be offered less than you paid especially if you bought them directly from the US Mint.
I will gladly make you an offer on your items if you send me a list of them.  They should all be in the original boxes with certificates and undamaged.
Send the list directly to me at JoeHylas@aol.com
