Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Silver Penny 1994

Question
I have a silver penny, that is dated 1994. It also has a small D stamped on it. I was wondering if this was a fluke, or mistake, or if possibly it's worth anything? If you could take the time to look into it I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Answer
Kacey,

Without seeing the coin, I can only offer two possible explanations :

1) It's an unfinished planchet error -- the zinc blank did not get its coating of copper -- worth about a dollar.

2) It's been plated, with silver, zinc, nickel, or some other silvery-looking metal -- no collector value.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
