Question
I am 43 and my son is 14 and we have puttered with a few coins here and there but have no clue what we are doing. It seems very confusing and books seem complicated. We are looking to collect as an investment and would appreciate some info on how to really start. It is fun but I can't help wondering if we are getting a good deal or paying too much. Also is it good to just purchase coins from the mint My ex started that with silver dollars I believe, for the kids but never kept it up. We appreciate your input. Thanks so much

Answer
Hi Kim,
The first thing I will say is that in this economy, collectibles are coming down in value.  Many people are selling just to get by.
That said, I would collect American god eagle coins.  They come in 1/10 oz., 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz., and 1 oz.
The smaller ones are quite affordable and are readily available.

Since we expect gold to continue to rise, I think that is your best route for the future.
