Question I have read in other answers about a guide book most collectors usebut don’t remember the name. I have many us coins but don’t know if they are valuable. Some are old from the 30 to 1970s.
AnswerHello Anthony,
The guide most commonly used is the RED BOOK it is titled “A GUIDE TO UNITED STATES COINS “by R.S. Yeoman. But this and others catalogs are only “Guides" to coin values and grading, the current value for most US coins is considered to be a standard, and truly rare coins can bring much more at auction than the listed prices.
If you do employ the services of a local numismatist/coin dealer to examine each item you will find them listed in your local yellow pages under "Coin Dealers".
To help you more, if you write me back with your approximate location, some zip codes and Telephone area codes for your area, and the nearest large city I will get you names of Professional American Numismatic Association member/dealers, In your area.
The A.N.A. bylaws state a code of ethics that all members should adhere to. If there is any question as to the integrity of the person on the list contact The Association about it.
Let the dealer you contact know you got the number through the A.N.A. I have no dealing with the people listed below. Let me know if you need more information.
Please note that The American Numismatic Association is a national organization with thousands of members and dealers all operate and are bound by our "Code of Ethics." to operate in an honest and open way as to promote the coin hobby. .
Thank You and Good Luck
