Coin and Paper Money Collecting/sliver of a 1962 penny

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1962 Lincoln head VERY THIN penny, It has the regular front and back,
but it has no edge around the coin, like normal coins do.  Could this be
misminted? If so, where would I find a reputable appraiser and how much could
it be worth?

ANSWER: Hello Dorothy,

For the One Cent piece the coin blanks come in two types.

The first is as it is punched right from the strip of metal and the second is the blank with an upset edge.

The edge is rolled square to the face of the coin blank prior to stamping the design elements on both sides.

So if the coins has not been altered this is a type one blank if the image is imprinted on both sides completely and the diameter is the same as other one cent coins.
It is a common error and they sell from $1 to four dollars if authentic at coin shows.

A coin dealer in your area would be able to tell you more. Since this is not an error in the striking of the coin imparted by the die it may have no value added to the coin.

If you are looking for a dealer in your area feel free write me back with the nearest large city and zip code for help.

Thank You and Good Luck

where could I find a dealer?

Answer
Hello again Dorothy,

Griffin does not have any national club members listed.
But here are two outstanding members that will let you know the name of a local dealer if there is a shop or club closer to you.
Just call them they are members of the American Numismatic Society.
