Question
Hello,

I just found a coin with the following:

REX PHILIP A D G HISPAN ET IND  with a crown and shield in the middle, an F on the right side and an 8 on the left.

On the reverse side:  VTRAQUE VNUM  with two pillars and a hemisphere in the middle.  The date on the bottom is 1700 with an M on each side.  The Ms have a small circle above them.

I have not found anything on the internet with this date.  Could this be athentic and if so, where can I go for more information?

Thank you for you time.  I truly appreciate it.

Larry

Answer
Hi Larry,
This sounds like a Pillar Dollar, however I an not sure they were made in 1700.  The M with a small circle indicated Mexico City Mint.

I suggest you check Mexican coinage and maybe something will show up.
