Question
Hi, I recently found this coin and cannot find much about it on the internet, i beleive it to be in very fine condition and wondered if you could give me some information about it and the approximate value,, thanks

Answer
Hi Julie,
If this is an authentic example and not a counterfeit, which are known to exist, you've got quite a rare coin. The list value for a VF coin is $575, though a professionally graded coin may do even more at auction. It's also worth noting that these often are weakly struck. If you are using US grading standards it may actually be an XF, which lists for $850.
Even in lower grades, the coin starts at $125 in VG and $275 in F.
Again, these prices may be conservative. Most of the early Spanish silver that I've auctioned on eBay has done really well and even exceeded estimates. I'm certain this would be true for your rare and desirable coin.
If there are additional questions you have just as a follow-up to this question. You can also attach a photo, which will help to establish authenticity.
The reference weight for your coin is right around 27 grams, though a circulated example may be a slightly lower. A coin that is several grams lighter or a little heavier is not going to be genuine.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
