Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Coin Value

Question
I have 1887 2000 Reis coin circulated.

Approximate value?

Where to sell?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Fred,
Your Brazilian coins is made of .917 purity silver and should weigh right around 25.5 grams for a genuine coin. A circulated example will be a gram or two lighter.
This is actually a better date, with only 43,000 minted. An average circulated coin starts at $15 to $20, while a lightly circulated one would bring $30 to $60.
Your best bet for selling the coin would be eBay. I'm an eBay coin dealer myself and can tell you from experience that these coins are fairly popular with the bidders.
Thanks for the question and best of luck with your coin! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
