Question
Dan, I have a set of theses medals in perfect condition. Each state has its own dated envelope with a signed certificate of authenticity. I don't want to sell but I was wondering the worth? I assume that they are the same as the fifty-state bicentennial collection as the only value is the silver its self. Is that correct? Thanks for the help.

Answer
John,

You are correct -- these privately minted (Franklin Mint) items rarely sell for more than their metal content.  I assume the total silver content would be a little under 50 ounces -- these usually are Sterling, which is .925 fine.

Current silver prices can be found at http://www.kitco.com

I did find one set on eBay, priced at $847, so it probably won't sell, but you can watch it and see :

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
