Coin and Paper Money Collecting/bahamas quarter

Question
I have recently found a quarter from the bahamas and I would like to know if it is worth anything. It is a 1997 twenty five cent piece with a crest on the front with the words "Commonwealth of the Bahamas". Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Answer
Hi Amy,
Since this coins is still legal tender spendable money in the Bahamas, a used coin is worth just the 25 cents face value. (Bahamas money is equal in value to US dollars). An nice and shiny mint condition coin is worth a dollar or so to collectors. Also, I believe this is a 1987 coin, since there is no such coin with a 1997 date.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
