Question
Dear Dmitry, My Grandfather has left me a complete collection of Ducks Unlimited silver medallions. There are 20 in all. They each weigh 2.9 ounces and are .99 silver. Each medallion is signed by the designer Larry Toschik.  I believe they were minted in the early 1960s by the Medallic Art Co. Each one depicts a different duck of North America. Can you shed any light on the subject?  Thank you in advance. If you can, please tell me their approximate value. I do know that in 1980, one set sold for $3000.00

Answer
Hi John,
This set must have been a lot more popular in 1980, or a dealer managed to find a great buyer. Today this set would sell for approximately half of that, or $1,500. Individual pieces from this set occasionally show up on eBay. Some sellers ask up to $70 each, however there are very few buyers. Medallic Art Co. silver is usually purchased at only a small percentage above bullion value. Larry Toschik is better known for his paintings and prints.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
