Question
i have a super small coin that says "republica mexicana" "1842" and then has the numbers "1" and "4" vertically down the center of the coin. on the front of the coin it has a very small (what appears to be) indian head. was wondering if this coin is worth anything...and if so...how much.thanks alot!

Answer
Hi Christy,
Your coin comes with several mint marks, which would be found on either side of the small head, near the bottom. The rare one is a Do-LR mint, which starts at around $10 in average circulated condition and goes up to over $100 for a perfect example. The other mint marks are Ga-JC and Go-PM, both of which range from about $3 to $20. These are pretty popular on the current market.
I apologize that you had to wait so long for a response, the expert you originally posed this question to passed it along just today.
Thanks for the question and best of luck with your coin! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
