Coin and Paper Money Collecting/misprint zinc coin

Question
I have found a 1938 Lincoln Wheat penny. I have taken it to my local dealer who believes it to be a test print but lacks the knowledge to be sure. Can you advise me on how to proceed. Thank you for your considering my coin.

Answer
Hi Bill,
Zinc plated steel cents were struck in 1943 and a few were made in 1944 by accident.  Is it possible that you have a pattern coin, certainly.  But there is no record of a pattern of this type being struck.
I could also be an out and out fake.  I have numerous examples of diems and quarters, common date, made of lead.
I would really have to see and weigh the coin to give you any more info.
