Coin and Paper Money Collecting/US quarter half copper.

Question

My quarter
I found a 1980 quarter that appears to be half copper. The bottom side is regular nickel but the top is copper. It sounds different when you drop it on a surface too, kind of like the silver quarters if you know what I mean. It goes clank instead of clink. The sides look slightly different too, on a regular quarter it appears to have a half silver half copper look and this one is copper all along the sides with no silver line. I was just curious about anything I could find out about it. Thank you for any help.

Answer
It sounds to me like a delamination error.  Since the coins are "sandwich", copper core with nickel outers, the coin probably delaminated after the striking.  It is possible that the one layer was simply never adhered, but I can't tell from the photo.
I suggest you submit the coin to Numismatic Guarantee Corporation for certification and grading.
Good Luck
