Coin and Paper Money Collecting/One sided quarter

Question
I recently had a quarter handed back to me in change. After i had left the store i noticed that one side of it was totally blank. The back side is clearly an Oklahoma state quarter complete with aligned ridges on the side. The front side is just a flat blank surface. I was just wondering if there was any way to easily tell if this was a fake of some kind or if it is really a misprinted quarter.

Answer
Hi Jesse,
Chances are it was tampered with.  When a coin is struck, the die for the obverse (front) and the die for the reverse (back) strike the coin simultaneously.  Technically, it is impossible to have a 1 sided coin.
Check the weight, it should weigh 5.67 grams.  If it is less, the outer layer may have delaminated, or maybe it was polished off.
I hope this helped!
