Question
I have an 1768 Mexico- Carlos III d g hisp etind r on the on side. It is a 1/2 real piece in pretty good condition. How much is it worth?  Thanks Evan

Answer
Hi Evan,
The Mexican version should have an Mo and M mint marks at either side of the date. This coin in really good condition sells for $30-$50 and more if it's a bold strike, as many of these are weakly struck.
You may also have a different mint mark. A LIMAE monogram with JM on the other side (looks like IM) stands for Peru and is worth a bit more. One with a G mark would be from Guatemala and worth a lot more.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
