Answer

8reales
Hi Rob,
You appear to have what are commonly referred to as "table medals". These large medals are too big to hang on a loop, so typically they would be used as decorative objects.
The design is based on the Spanish-Mexican-American colonial 8 reales or "pillar dollars" or "pieces of eight" as they are known.
I have included a picture of one of the original coins, which are made of silver and are much smaller than your medals.
They are certainly interesting items. I really cannot give you a value because there are no records for such items, being just a novelty. They seem pretty modern, so I would put them at around $10 each just as a curiosity. There are also exonumia collectors who look specifically for coin related items such as this and may be willing to pay a bit more.
Thanks for the question and best of luck with your medals! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
