Question

1851 Penney
i have a penney i found and was wondering the value of it. I am sending some pictures along to help the penneys date is 1851 and on the back cent is spelt with u and not and e so it reads cunt.

Answer
Hi John,
I have seen these many times.  The coin was altered after it left the mint.
Had it not been altered, it would be worth about $10.
However, it could be worth more as a conversation piece.  I am just guessing but maybe this was used as an advertising piece for a bordello.  I was never able to get a clear answer on how/why these were made.
