Question

1792 Coin Photo
Hello.  This is Kate again.  I wrote to you earlier, but I now have some photos.. These go with my questions about the 1792... Gold... Charles IIII coin.

Answer
Hello again Kate,
Regrettably this is a crude counterfeit.
If you compare it with the photo I attached of a genuine coin, in response to your previous question, the irregularities and inconsistencies become clear.
I'm sorry to say that this appears to be a modern counterfeit, which has no real numismatic value and is actually illegal to sell as an authentic coin. An antique counterfeit would have at least some collectible value.
Better luck next time, right?
Thanks again for the questions! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
