Ferd. I.D.G. Regni
Siciliar VM ET Hier Rex

On reverse side;
Tornesi
Dieci

Dated; 1819.

Answer
Hi Angela,
This Italian coin comes from the kingdom of Naples and Sicily, prior to the Italian unification in the early 1860's. This particular 10 torneci was only made for the one year, 1819. The later types were made for several consecutive years. Such coins are quite popular with collectors because of the large size and heavy weight.
On the current market, a decent example with a lot of wear starts in the $5-$10 range. A nice piece with only a little wear quickly jumps to the $20-$40 range, and a coin with barely any wear at all goes up to $100+.
If you would like to look this coin up yourself, the Krause catalog reference number for this coin is "C #123".
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
