Question
Do you know somewhere I could get more information on the Longines medals? I own 76 of them and would like to complete sets but cannot find information on which and how many medals make up each set. I am a disabled veteran from Desert Storm and its just my hobby.
Thank You and God Bless
Robert

Answer
Hi Robert,
From what I can tell these were put out in the early 1970's in sets of 36 and 60 pieces. The unfortunate part is that the information you seek is going to be very difficult to find. The Wittnauer mint, where these were made, has been defunct for a long time. Although I'm sure they kept records, these records were not put into publication and God only knows what happened to the originals.
As far as the sets, most of them can still be found for sale on websites. This can at least give you an idea of how many pieces belong to each set.
Sorry that I could not be of more help.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
