About Dan Moore Expertise My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library,
and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just
about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current
price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So,
with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value
any U.S. coin you have.
Experience I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.

Question Hello, Dan -- I've got to come to the *real* experts on this one. I operate a private coin appraisal site and received a stumper inquiry. Alan Herbert thinks this is a fake, and it probably is, but why, what, how?
This is simply another one of the modern minted Chinese counterfeits, like the 1886-CC Morgan Dollar I was just asked about, or the many O-mint Trade Dollars I've been asked about in the past.
They use a coin press and make their own dies, so they can make virtually any kind of coin they want to -- and the Chinese government has no problem with this -- they only have a problem if they try to counterfeit Chinese coins.
They also counterfeit U.S. coins with the proper date/mint combos. See my article about fake 1885-O, -S, and -CC dollars here :
