Question
Have a copper coin, dated 1724, approx. 7/8" diameter, has letters F R S and what appear as 3 crowns on one side, reverse side has another crown at top, shield below and within shied two arrows crossed forming an "X", this side also has letters "1" "L" or "I" and below that letter "K" on left side of sheild and letters "OR" and letter "M" below "OR" on right side of sheild.  Can you tell me information about this coin?

Answer

Swe 1 ore
Hi Ken,
This is an early copper coin from Sweden, a 1 ore (their equivalent of a cent). I have attached a picture for your confirmation that I have the same coin in mind.
A well worn, but fully readable example sells for $5 or so, a better example like the one in the photo would be $10-$15. A really nice nearly perfect coin would be $100+, especially if it's graded professionally.
If you ask a follow-up question and post a photograph, I can give you more specific information.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
