Question
i had bought a 10  Liberian coin but the odd thing about it is that the face belongs to former president bush ive seened this coin once on ebay a 2003 version this coin is a 2004 version that say on the face side:George w. bush-43rd president of the united states and on the back republic of Liberia i want to know if this coin is pure silver and how much it'll be worth in mint condition.

Answer

Liberia $10
Hi Marcus,
This coin is actually not made of silver. Like the other Liberian $5 and $10 coins, it is made of a copper-nickel alloy. Dealers often try to pass them off as silver, but keep in mind that late 1990's and 20o0's coins like this are not.
In retail situations, dealers typically charge $8-$10 for a mint condition coin. The picture I've attached is of a certified coin, which sells for $15 or so. The auction prices are lower because of a lack of interested bidders.
If you were wondering about the repeat design for the 2003 and 2004 issues... that is also pretty typical for Liberia. There are also George W Buch coins for 2001 and 2002 like this, and many different years that depict JFK and Reagan.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
